He has done it again! Michael Fletcher, our video guy has posted a short (6 minute) excerpt from his latest video ‘South West Light – A Photographer’s Perspective’.

The finished 30 minute video will be first screened at our upcoming Ninety Degrees Five (ND5) exhibition opening at Yallingup Galleries in Western Australia on the 3rd of November 2012.

The video charts our thoughts and feelings, observations and working methods, camaraderie and purpose behind South West Light, the second in a series of ND5 collaborative projects that engages with nature and culture as landscape, memory and myth. That is, constructs of the imagination projected onto wood, water and stone.

Unique to this body of work is the collaboration between the five members of ND5, four photographers Peter Eastway, Christian Fletcher, Tony Hewitt and Les Walkling, and videographer Michael Fletcher.  ND5 is also an experiment about what can happen when a group forms from diverse but supportive individuals who are secure enough in their own practice to experiment with it. On South West Light we were joined by guest photographer and good friend Nick Rains.

Together, our collaborative practice demonstrates a way of working and thinking about what we do as visual artists, where the profit derived from each other’s enthusiasm, research and practice is more than enough motivation to spend time together.

It is also an investment in our future, where sharing resources in a resource rich world is a small stand against the excesses of our culture and its rummaging and vociferous ways.  It is a plausible alternative that engages compromise and contrition, while allowing us to tread a little lighter on this earth.  At the very least we offer our sincerity, respect and acknowledgement, and hope that you will view our endeavours in this spirit.

Michael’s video both documents this process and critiques our practice, providing unique insights into what we do and why we do it.

In conjunction with the exhibition, an ND5 seminar/workshop is also being held on the opening weekend (2nd to 4th November 2012). Despite all of our traveling and working together, this will be the first time that ND5 have had the opportunity to present such a program, and given our combined experience as visual artists, writers and workshop presenters it promises to be an unbelievable experience. I can’t hardly wait.
